Volgograd State Medical University

is the oldest medical university. It was founded in 1935 and at the moment it is one of the largest among medical and pharmaceutical universities in Russia in terms of the number of students at various levels. The world-renowned university, having preserved its traditions and carefully preserving its origins is dynamically developing in the spirit of the 21st century.

Anatoly Georgievich Konevsky, a surgeon, transplantologist and legendary doctor, was the first to bring worldwide fame to VSMU. He introduced a fundamentally new neurophysiological approach to the problems of organ transplantation. The "Kovyl" telemetry system, which became the first in telemedicine, was also his invention.

VSMU scientists are creating innovative exoskeletons. They have also developed a multifunctional individual protection system. This is just a small part of the achievements that our university is proud of.
The pharmacological scientific school of Volgograd State Medical University is also known all over the world. University staff have created a number of drugs, many of which are already used in medicine. These are drugs for the treatment of cardiac diseases, increasing the body's endurance, analgesics, antidiabetic, nootropic (improving memory) and antiplatelet (reducing blood clots formation) drugs.

Education in Astrakhan is wonderful; all the lessons educated here are so useful. Besides the education, the language is of importance due to communication, when going outside the Russian language comes off to good use, and is very easy to learn if a student puts the interest and the effort. Life at the hostel is also pretty good. You get to live happily and comfortably with other foreign students. All the facilities are available to any extent. Life in Astrakhan is always good, although the weather could not be appealing at times especially in winter which starts in January and ends in March. There are lots of places to visit for many purposes. Overall I enjoy studying in Astrakhan and I would hope a myriad amount of students would come from Sri Lanka to study here.
